Mac OSX to Ubuntu using XDMCP

Had a real problem with key mapping with OSX X client (xquartz) when connecting to an Ubuntu server over XDMCP

/usr/X11R6/bin/Xquartz :1 -query 192.168.1.101

Would present the login dialogue box and permit a sucessful login but then the keymap screws up.

I have not found a sucesfull fix for this yet but a good workaround is to select extended US keymap on the client Mac.

System Preferences/International/Input Menu/

Then simply tick the ‘US extended’ map.

I also selected the ‘show input menu in menu bar’ box to facilitate rapid selection between british and US extended keymaps.

Some sort of Unicode issue I’m sure……

Finally got the O2 Nokia N95 3G connection working with Bluetooth on OSX

1. Install the modem scripts from http://www.taniwha.org.uk/

I used the scripts titled ” Scripts for Nokia 3G (EDGE/UMTS) phones (17kB): Nokia 3G Scripts”

Installation of the scripts is straight forward – just unpack them and copy them to your system Library/Modem scripts folder.

2. Ensure Bluetooth is set up and has recognised your phone.

3. Within system preferences network network section, configure a new network location (in my example, I called it O2 – you can call it anything you like). Populate the details as shown in the dialog below:

In the bluetooth Modem dialog, make sure you select the appropriate modem script as shown below:
